Time of release
Predominately Shiraz, this full bodied wine is given added dimension by a small yet impactful 7% addition of Cabernet Franc. Picked together and co-fermented, the result is a layered, aromatic profile and richly textured palate. Graphite and leather notes weave seamlessly with the red and black fruits; while herbal characters, woody spice and a touch of mint are lifted by the wines natural acidity. Delicious now but patience will be rewarded.

Full bodied, yet very approachable, Emily’s keeps on giving. Brilliant magenta in colour, this wine will stain. Intense dark fruits of cherry, raspberry and plum, followed through with a hint of mint and dark chocolate. Structured chalky tannins and balanced natural acidity allows this wine to be cellared.

Wow! Elva’s pick of the six. A classic, perfumed, Emily’s Paddock. Complex layers of flavour; flint, spice, mint, toasty oak wrapped up in dark and brooding black and blue fruits. Soft, velvety tannins that coat your palate, great length and with fabulous longevity if you can wait, but equally delicious now.

Time of release
A vibrant red/blue colour hints at what is to come! The usual perfumed aromas are followed by an extremely full and complex palate of blackberry, red currant and lightly minted cola. Impeccable tannins and natural acidity in abundance, finishing with the hallmark great length. Possibly a little more approachable as a young wine than recent vintages, but just as cellarable. Very happy with this one. Alcohol 15.5%

Immediately recognizable as a highly typical Emily’s Paddock. From its depth of colour and individual, perfumed, minty nose, across its full spicy palate, beautifully balanced yet powerful grape and French oak derived chalky tannins to its extremely long, natural acid finish. Like the Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz, a little more forward and elegant than recent vintages – if you are familiar with Emily’s Paddock, this is unmistakably Emily’s Paddock! That highly spiced and perfumed nose with some mint, full fruity palate, harmonious grape and new French oak tannins with extreme length. Again, great longevity. 15.5% alc/vol

Characteristic intensity of deep red colour to the edge with its true-to-style elegant yet full barrage of complex flavours, including the normal creaminess of oak and the hint of choco-mint. Fabulously long, acid finish and sufficient supple tannins to confer a long life. 15.5% alc/vol

Medium deep Crimson. Intense lifted blackcurrant menthol aromas with chinotto inky notes. Well concentrated blackcurrant blackberry fruits, with menthol sage like notes, fine chocolaty but vigourous tannins and underlying mocha ginger oak complexity. Typical complex creamy mint, aniseed, asian spice characters with a hint of chocolate in a generous and powerful wine of exceptional elegance, length and balance between the natural acidity and impeccable tannins. Wine critic Rob Geddes MW recently described the previous 2014 vintage in two words: “pure art”. This one is as good as it gets. Long cellaring will reward, but it is delicious now! 15.0% alc/vol

The usual, brooding, dense magenta tones with an immediate perfumed, minty bouquet leading on to a spicy, black berried, blackcurrant, complex set of flavours followed by a firm tannic finish. Time of release
Another definitive Emily’s with its depth of colour, having the typical creaminess of new French barriques melded into a beautiful framed wine of elegant mouth feel, great length and a minerality from the shallower Cambrian soil over sedimentary rock. Abundant natural acidity and lots of ripe, supple tannins enable a very long life but it is still approachable now. 13.5 percent alcohol/volume.

Characterised by great length and structure, it has all the usual creamy French oak wrapped around the core of fruit and massive tannins. Again, our little Emily’s Paddock has turned out a beauty, with excellent cellaring potential. After 21 years of bearing a vintage ribbon around its neck, Elva is now putting that labour intensive effort into the vineyard instead. 15.0 percent alcohol/volume.

Time of release
A co-fermented blend, which may well be unique in the world, but what the heck; it works. Essentially, it is still a Shiraz wine; the little bit of well integrated Cabernet Franc adds to it’s complexity, but ultimately the vineyard terroir distinguishes it from Georgia’s. This one is a beauty. The usual spicy aromas, finishes firmer than 2001, fantastic structure and elegance. 14.5% alcohol.

Great structure and an acid balance that typifies “Emily’s”, with its normal mouth watering perfume, elegance and length. Fabulous wine that highlights the influence of site specificity or terroir, being only one kilometre from Georgia’s Paddock, but poles apart in style. A touch more tannic than the 2000. Delicious now, and cellaring potential is high. 13.5% alc/vol.

Continuing the trend started with the ’92, this Emily’s Paddock has an elegant structure. Chocolate and wholesome, earthy aromas are quite typical, with ripe mulberry complexity. Not as tannic as some of the monsters of the past – superb acid balance. Accessible now with longevity up to 12 years. Alcohol 13.5%

Time of release
The most elegant Emily’s yet, if that descriptor can be applied to such a powerful wine. A touch of mintyness and pepper added to the usual tarry/meaty characters. A very well balanced wine with a great structure. Like all of our wines, this has heaps of natural acidity. The chalky tannins sneak up on you after swallowing. The Cabernet Franc component is up a bit this year to around ten percent. 13.5% alcohol.

Time of release
Essentially a Shiraz wine with about 5% Cabernet Franc in the blend, all picked and fermented together. Typically, a darker, bigger, more tannic wine than Georgia’s. Earthy, chocolaty characters and heaps of tannin. Very well balanced. Exceptional cellaring potential.

This is the most approachable “Emilys” to date. Although it is a big wine as Emilys usually is, the fruit is showing through while the grape and French oak derived tannins are a little softer than previously. Well balanced with long cellaring potential.

Time of release
Fire fighting helicopters assisted in diverting and halting the fire at the entrance to this vineyard so the vines and crop suffered no damage. The release continues the tradition of Emily’s Paddock Shiraz/Cabernet Franc. A big, deep coloured wine with subdued fruit character at this young age. Longer term cellaring desirable.

Identical colour and depth to Georgia’s, but here the similarity ceases. Herbaceous aroma, more pronounced than usual for Emily’s. Fruit well balanced with high acid and tannins. Possibly a little more forward than previous releases but a few years cellaring is still desirable. Generally available at cellar door only.

Time of release
Picked on Ash Wednesday, but the wine does not exhibit fume flavours! Instead, we have again a firmer, tannic style: good acid backbone (pH 3.40) subtle new French oak nuances, immense fruit flavours – more blackberry than cassis this year, from the drought affected, quicker ripening fruit. Drink now if you like, but cellar for a few years if possible.
